Museum of Croydon
The museum presents the local history of the London Borough of Croydon through an eclectic collection of artifacts from domestic and public life. Fat were commissioned to refurbish the gallery interiors and to design the new exhibition. Through a combination of modular display boxes and bespoke furniture elements, the miscellaneous objects are woven into an engaging multi-layered narrative. Fat worked closely with the curatorial staff, specialist consultants and exhibition contractors to tailor the display settings to the exhibition content, including integration of interactive audio-visual technology. Works within the Grade-1 listed Croydon Clocktower building were given the consent of English Heritage and the proposal was awarded a grant of £1 Million from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The completed museum opened to the public in September 2006.
